SUN + WYCLEF = SUREFIRE HIT DEBUT ALBUM!
NEW YORK (November 2006)—One of the hottest commodities in pop music worldwide, Haitian hip-hip maestro Wyclef Jean moves from engineering Columbian singer Shakira’s recent worldwide smash hit, “Hips Don’t Lie,” to his next project … Bringing the music of Asian songbird SUN into the top of the charts in the United States!
Wyclef and SUN had originally agreed to collaborate on one single for SUN’s upcoming US album. When they started working together at Wyclef’s Platinum Sound Recording Studio in New York, creative sparks began to fly and within a few hours, they had written a song together from scratch. The single, named “China Wine,” is described by SUN as a feel good song with lyrics that “tell everyone to get to the dance floor and dance your problems away,” says Sun. “I love this track because I’ve added a touch of the Asian flavor into it … I even sing some sections in my native language Mandarin!”
SUN is especially excited to work with Wyclef because of his successful infusion of other artist’s cultures into their album and song collaborations with him. After introducing the hip-hop/R&B styles of Beyonce and Lauryn Hill, as well as the Latin sounds of Shakira, Wyclef is now ready to bring the Asian-influenced sound of SUN to mainstream America. Says Wyclef, “I love working with artists who bring their culture to their music. They say, “This is who I am and this is who I represent. You’re either gonna like me or you’re not!’”
Because SUN and Wyclef worked so well together on “China Wine,” they put their heads together and decided that Wyclef should helm the production of the entire album. SUN and Wyclef have since started recording in New York in mid-October.
“I just love her voice … SUN is an artist I am really excited to create something with!” states Wyclef.
SUN echoes a similar sentiment, “Clef is fiercely passionate about music and the musicians that he works with. That really motivates me towards making better music with him. I hope that the music that comes out of our collaboration will inspire and create a great feeling in people when they listen to the album.”
Besides Wyclef, SUN has been collaborating with nothing less than the crème de la crème of America’s music industry, with some of the top producers and songwriters on her album including Denise Rich, Donna Summer, Desmond Child, The Underdogs, and Diane Warren. SUN’s much-anticipated US album follows her highly successful singles, including the world-wide smash hits “Without Love” and “Ends of the Earth.” Both of these dance singles hit top positions in the United States and in the United Kingdom.
SUN currently has another dance single that has hit #1 on the Billboard Dance Chart. The song, “Gone,” is a ballad but has been successfully remixed into dance edits by the likes of Tony Moran, Ralphi Rosario, Jason Nevins and others. It has been receiving rave reviews all around. Billboard Magazine recently reviewed the single, saying that it is an “instantly gratifying melodic jewel.” It goes on to say that “SUN is the real deal as a vocalist, with the remixes simply revolving around her luminescence.” |
