China Wine in the Making

Sun’s new English album boasts a collaboration with one of America’s most sought-after producers, Wyclef Jean.
SINGAPORE (31 October 2006)—Local newspaper The Straits Times revealed the latest developments of Sun Ho’s debut English album, China Wine. The pop-dance album is helmed by Wyclef Jean who was originally co-writing one song with Sun. However, after hearing the remaining songs, the Haitian rapper-producer felt that he could enhance the album even more and reworked the entire line-up.
“Jean felt he could put his magic into it,” Sun told ST Life! during the opening of her new boutique, Skin, at The Heeren. Wyclef has since taken over the role of executive producer, and has dropped five songs from the original list and written five more.
The album will now be launched in mid-2007 instead. Such a change means an increased workload for Sun who had spent much of the past year in Los Angeles. But with these developments, she now has to record at Wyclef’s studio in New York City. The rigorous schedule has taken a toll on the singer, who confessed that she lost 3kg over the past few months due to longer work hours.
Although initially worried about the album’s postponement, the singer is excited at the prospect of her English release. “I had spent close to a year on it and had given my best. But now I know it’ll be even better.”
In addition, Wyclef has also infused traces of Asian influences into the album, incorporating the use of Mandarin lyrics and Chinese instruments like the pipa and the erhu.
“I feel like I’m doing my heritage proud,” Sun said. |
