Asian pop star, Sun Ho, chats with Asiance Magazine on her latest developments in the music scene and shares more on her life and loves in and about America and Asia.
NEW YORK, USA (October 2006)—Online publication, Asiance Magazine, featured Sun Ho in their October issue of the editorial. Listing the various accolades she has garnered in Asia throughout the years, the Asiance reporter was impressed with all that Sun has achieved in the music scene and what she has yet to offer with her new English album.
Acknowledging her “wide-ranging appeal” that has reached the wider part of the world, Asiance Magazine wrote that her US album would be a highly anticipated event, with producer, Wyclef Jean at its helm. When asked about their collaboration on one of the album’s songs, the singer said, “The song that Wyclef and I wrote together is called ‘China Wine’ … it’s a fun, celebrational song … and it’s unique element is how Wyclef and I have added our individual cultures to the song without taking away its mainstream pop appeal for the US market.”
The article also highlighted that Sun’s success in the pop entertainment industry in Asia and China has opened up opportunities for her to pioneer a wave of Asian music in the mainstream American pop culture. With four Mandarin albums and four English dance singles to her name (two of which topped the Billboard charts), Sun’s US manager singled her out to lead an “Asian Invasion” into America, the implications of which is huge, considering the diversity of the US market.
Sun noted, “My manager and his team really believe that the American public is ready for an Asian figure in the pop world here. I hope to bring all of ‘Sun’ and a touch of Asia to my music and to the pop listeners here.” Despite her achievements so far, the singer revealed that she has so much more to learn and even more experiences to go through in the vast music “mecca” of western pop culture. Some of her all-time favorite female inspirations include Madonna, Gwen Stefanie and Christina Aguilera—all of whom she would enjoy working together with in the future.
The column also reviewed her work in Asia, which includes building schools for children. Confessing to be a humanitarian at heart, this celebrity has focused much of her philanthropic efforts toward the less fortunate children in Asia because of her belief that “education is the key to empowerment and joy.”
The multi-talented individual also owns four retail boutiques in her hometown of Singapore, one of which is the Ed Hardy flagship store along Singapore’s premier shopping belt. A well-known fashion label among Hollywood celebrities, Sun is the sole distributor of this brand in the Asian region. In addition, all her boutiques stock up on upscale fashion wear from LA and more recently, from Japan.
Apart from this, the pop star is also a friend and counselor. Her clients include those she has known before or come in contact with over the years. Despite her demanding schedule, she never fails to keep in touch with her clients, some of whom she says are truly in need of help. The singer reflected, “Sometimes, I’m the only lifeline and course of support they have.” The singer also offered a few helpful tips on how to become a more effective communicator because communication is a vital aspect of all kinds of relationships.
With a host of accomplishments in tow and the sheer willingness to work hard at all costs, this committed artist is set to soar even higher in her music career, business and humanitarian endeavors. |
